CPCS Technologies can assist your agency in deploying secure wireless components as part of your network infrastructure.

Wireless gear, specifically the 802.11 ‘Wi-Fi’ hardware is notoriously insecure unless secured with VPN type of technology overlay.  CPCS can assist you in deploying wireless hardware in a secure fashion that you can depend on for maximum bulletproof security.

Wireless solutions are useful for extending your network quickly for crisis or emergency situations, expanding into structures where it is too difficult or costly to run wires, areas where the network will only be temporary, conference or meeting areas to allow people to connect to the network or Internet in an ad-hoc situation, or to allow contractors or the public to access the Internet as a courtesy.

In remote situations CPCS can assist you in finding the right wireless solution, either terrestrial or satellite for access to critical network or Internet solutions.

CPCS uses SprintPCS data cards for Internet access in the field nationwide and we are currently testing Nextel Wireless Broadband service in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area.  The Nextel service is very impressive to this point with speeds bursting to 3.0Mbps and sustainable 1.5Mbps downstream.

Wireless is the big buzzword currently in the networking world.  Don’t buy the hype. Let CPCS assist you in understanding the risks, the performance issues, the costs, and other various aspects of wireless technology.

If you deploy 802.11 wireless technology, please do it properly and make sure it is truly secure.  It is estimated that less than 10% of currently deployed wireless systems are secure.  The WEP technology that all 802.11 gear has IS NOT considered secure. Make sure you use at least WPA (wi-fi protected access) level security or better yet, VPN overlay.
